It's official, the football team at Coleg Gwent's Usk Campus are now key players in the British Colleges League and have kick started the new season with a 4 - 2 win against Coleg Powys.

Playing at home, yesterday (Wednesday 24 September), Powys were first on the score sheet, but Usk soon followed to equalise in the 12 minute through a breakaway run from Mark Heritage who fed Mark Davis to score the first goal of the new season.  Usk went ahead again with Heritage beating the keeper to score his second.

Powys was well motivated after the break with a well deserved equaliser on the hour mark resulting from a good passing move.  However, Usk clearly wanted the win more than their counterparts and consistent pressure from the forwards resulted in a third goal from Mark Davis who again finished at close range.  Usk's fourth goal delivered a convincing victory with a well executed kick by Heritage.

, Head Coach Ryan Taylor said: "This was an encouraging performance from a newly formed team.  I'm excited by the potential ability of the players, but more significantly their work ethic and commitment are to thank for this result."

Assistant Coach Scott Young said: "It's great to see students at Usk Campus across Sport and Public Services working together with such enthusiasm.  There is a great atmosphere on campus this year and students are already meeting our high expectations."

Usk Campus will play St David's College, Cardiff on Thursday 8 October at Maindee Stadium in the next league game.
