The gulf between WRU Leagues 5 and 6 was demonstrated in Monmouth's Swalec's Bowl win over Beaufort last Saturday by 40 points to 10.
With perfect conditions underfoot, bright sunshine and a variable wind to contend with, both sides gave their best in a sporting and entertaining contest – just reward for the match sponsor's generosity, Nigel Cave of Monmouth Memorials.
Only the referee's strict interpretation of the laws provoked frustration among the more liberal crowd who saw only what they wanted to see.
Monmouth, it seemed, had learned to a man from their disappointment last week with everyone seeming far more alert and committed, with the front five again proving a strength, but this time with their three-quarters looking purposeful and willing to run the ball whenever it was feasible to do so.
