A Monmouth man is threatening to sue housebuilder Charles Church Homes over problems with his new home.

Jonathan Lewis is angry as faults pointed out to the developer back in December have yet to be fixed.

Mr Lewis moved into a four-bedroom home on the new Parc Glyndwr development with his family in February.

Since then he has been battling with Charles Church to correct a number of problems that have come to light with the house.

"Prior to completion, we had notified them of various issues with the house which we were assured would be remedied swiftly. How wrong we were," he said.

Mr Lewis says, in retrospect, that he should have insisted on the corrections being in the sales contract.

As it is, the Lewis family has been living in the house for more than two months and are constantly having to call the customer care team to come and make repairs.

The list of faults included render cracking, sinks not fitted properly, pipes positioned in the home wrongly, scratches in window panes, dents in the patio door, scratches on door handles, uneven flooring in the lounge, uneven turf, loose taps and cracked bricks glued together with concrete.

"We have had a few of these things mended but for some things they send someone out and then do half a job and disappear," said Mr Lewis.

"I think they are hoping we will just get tired of contacting customer services and rarely getting a reply, and eventually give up."

Mr Lewis has spent countless hours at home during the week, waiting for workmen to correct the problems and he is annoyed at the inconvenience.

"What really upsets me is that, after spending £360,000, Charles Church deem it fit to give you an unfinished house.

"These houses are put up quickly with little care and the attitude once they've got your money is disgraceful. I am going to take them to court."

Steve Williams, managing director of Persimmon Homes East Wales, said: "As one of Wales's leading housebuilders it can only be a matter of deep regret to us if any customer is dissatisfied with their new home.

"We are aware that Mr Lewis has experienced problems since buying his new home and we apologise sincerely for the inconvenience caused to him.

"We are committed to resolving the issues for which we are liable, to his complete satisfaction.

"Our contracts manager has met with Mr Lewis at his home and agreed the works that need to be undertaken.

"All of our new homes come with a National House-Building Council 10-year warranty, ensuring every property is built to the rigorously inspected NHBC standards and providing reassurance to customers that any defects will be rectified under the guarantee."
