SIR,

Following previous correspondence, the poor state of the A40 underpass has improved slightly due to a new coat of paint, but graffiti is left in place for weeks on end, and the railings, which are unsafe, being rusted through in 20 or 30 places, are not replaced.

This is the gateway to Monmouth for cyclists and walkers during the tourist season, yet it's one of the shabbiest sites in town.

Replacement of the railings is the responsibility of SWTRA, the Welsh transport agency; readers can contact them at [email protected]">[email protected], or by post to 12a Llandarcy House, Llandarcy, Neath, SA10 6EJ.
