The Sports Ground was the venue for the latest league fixture of Monmouth Druids.
Their opponents were Caldicot, who they defeated heavily earlier in the season, but would the game go the same way?
The bitterly cold weather must have affected the players because the play at the start of the game lacked continuity because of poor skill levels and strict refereeing by a diligent but competent official.
The Druids had the better of play but had difficulty in breaching the Caldicot defence. Some inconclusive back play was responsible for much of their lack of success as lateral running was prevalent.
They did take the lead through a penalty goal by centre Dave Brace which they deserved.
Fortunes looked bright for the Druids when they increased the lead through a well worked try.
A scrum five metres from the Caldicot line was the basis of the next score. A solid scrum saw captain and Number Eight Brad Morgan pick up and feed the scrum half, who in turn fed full back Mattie Morgan who darted between two defenders to touch down near the posts.
Dave Brace converted to put the Druids into a 10-nil lead.
