SIR,

In your report on the future of the Dingestow Railway Station building you remarked that we have lost both the Troy Station and May Hill Station.

This is not the case regarding Troy Station as the building was demolished stone by stone and rebuilt at Winchcombe on the Gloucestershire/ Warwichshire Railway which ends at Cheltenham Racecourse.

I have always believed the story that when the Duke of Beaufort was asked if he was agreeable to having a railway line built on his land at Monmouth he asked for the station to be built as near to Troy House, his Monmouth Residence, as possible.

If it has been built nearer to the town centre we would have had to suffer either an ugly Railway Bridge or a level crossing. He did the town a great favour.
