Monmouth Band comprises of a dedicated group of musicians, practicing and performing for the local community playing a wide range of music.
The tradition of teaching the young and old of Monmouth to play a brass instrument has been about for more than 50 years.
In that time the musical skills passed down the decades have brightened the lives of the participants in many ways, the joy of making music is always worth the many hours of practice.
Monmouth Band was formed in 1968 and one of the founder members was a young lad, Norman Lewis.
His enthusiasm and dedication ensured his place in the band initially playing cornet, which he played up until 2017.
He transferred onto the baritone feeling he could be more useful filling the vacant position, having the skill to be able to play most instruments.
Norman has, after 54 years playing with the band,, retired this year.
The band will miss his commitment and good humour, and to honour his service they have made a trophy in his name, to be presented to a member of the band for their dedication.
