A 59-year-old man has died following a collision in Monmouth in the early hours of last Wednesday morning (10th July).
Paul Chappell (pictured left) was from the Trellech area but had been living in Newport of late.
Gwent Police were called at about 3.16am last Wednesday to reports of a car having been involved in a collision at the lower end of Monnow Street.
Officers and emergency services colleagues attended the scene and found that a Peugeot 106 had collided with a building.
The driver, Mr Chappell, was unconscious and remained in the vehicle. He was removed from the vehicle and taken to Nevill Hall Hospital, where he died a short time later.
Officers are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision and an inquest was opended on 11th July.
Anyone who may have seen the collision, or who may have been in the Monnow Street area between 3am and 3.30am last Wednesday is asked to ring 101 quoting log 61.
