Counc Ann Were, who has been Deputy Mayor for the last year, was unanimously chosen to succeed Counc Terry Christopher, who has been a popular and hard working Mayor for the last three years.
On taking office, the new Mayor said she regarded it as a privilege to be elected to serve the town and council.
"If I do the job half as well as Terry Christopher, then I will have done it well" said Counc Were.
