A NEW running club is being formed in Monmouth with twin aims - fitness and fun.
"It is our intention to cater for all types of runners from the complete novice who is looking for company and advice, to the more competent club runners who would regularly want to enter races," said Alan Watkins, one of the originators of the idea for the new club.
Mr Watkins said there were a large number of people running in Monmouth - or who would like to run - who had been put off the idea of joining a club because of feeling out of their depth.
"Although Sunday mornings and a mid-week evening are planned as the main meeting times, we are keen to encourage groups to meet when it is most suitable for them. For example, mothers with school children may find it more convenient to run mid-morning or afternoon.
"Until the club is established there will be no subscriptions or membership fees, so if your aim is to lose a few pounds, work up a thirst or complete a marathon, this could be the club for you," he said.
The club's first meeting is this Wednesday, May 26, at Monmouth Rowing Club (7.30pm). Further information is available on 01600 772704.
