Parva Farm Vineyard, owned by Colin & Judith Dudley since 1996, has just scooped a major award in the Welsh Vineyards Association Wine Awards 2023 national competition. The competition was held at Llanerch Vineyard Hotel, Pontyclun in the Vale of Glamorgan and attracted entries from many of the Welsh vineyards. It was judged by four judges from different types of wine enterprises who all expressed delight at the quality of the wines entered. “Tintern Parva Bacchus 2019”, produced by Parva Farm Vineyard, was judged to be the best wine of the 17 entries in the “White wine” category and was awarded a gold medal. Judith Dudley commented that she & Colin were obviously delighted by the award and that the saying that the best quality wines are made from old vines had proved to be true! Parva Farm Vineyard has had many competition successes over the years with their white, rose and red wines and more recently with their sparkling wines. Their sparkling rose won “Best in Show” in 2022’s competition. Colin said that some exceptional wines are now being produced in Wales and it is well worth paying the Welsh vineyards a visit to try their wines and learn more about them.
In 1979, they planted the vineyard on the south facing slopes above the River Wye, overlooking Tintern and its historic Abbey. Forty four years on, that vineyard is still producing extra special wines from these old vines.
