Work to stabilise a woodland above the village of Tintern in the Wye Valley, which had suffered two landslides, has been completed as planned in time for the school summer holidays.
Forestry Commission Wales, which manages most of the unstable Barbadoes wood above the A466 road into the village, spent around £1.5 million making the land safe following the slips, in February 2007 and in January 2008.
The landslides forced the temporary closure of the A466 and the Commission's specialist consulting engineers Halcrow, together with the contractors Dean and Dyball, pulled out all the stops to complete the work on time
