MADAM,

I reply to R W Bradley’s letter of 18th January (‘Nothing being achieved’). It is my opinion that when Monmouth Town Council voted to ’upgrade’ the current play park in 2014 it was without consulting with the residents of Monmouth and I feel it was the easy option.

It wasn’t until 2016 when Monmouthshire County Council put laminated sheets at the existing play park showing the refurbishment ideas and asking for input from parents and residents that a group of parents decided a refurbishment would be useless and felt the children of Monmouth deserved a safer more visible playground. Nobody is asking to ’take’ any more space from Chippenham Mead (the area would be exactly the same size). It would merely be swapping the space for a more appropriate area nearer to local amenities and away from the noise and pollution of the A40.

It’s a shame that Mr Bradley feels the need to be personal. I’m not sure how people trying to improve the public amenities of the future generations can be called "ego seekers". Perhaps he should consult with his ward area before making decisions - supposedly on their behalf.
