A by-election for Wyesham has been called for July 24 following the resignation of former mayor Alice Fletcher.

The seat is being contested by three candidates.

Jem Jenkins-Jones, Independent, Robert Kavanagh for Reform UK and Xavier Turner, Local Conservatives.

Currently, Wyesham has three other councillors sitting on the town council: Rob Barrell, Independent and the deputy mayor, David Evans, Welsh Labour and Rachel Jupp, a co-opted Independent.

Alice Fletcher was the sole surviving member of the previous town council following the local elections in 2022 and only five nominations were received by the returning officer leaving the council not quorate, meaning that there were not enough councillors to make decisions and vote them through. The council comprised of two Welsh Labour councillors, two Welsh Conservatives and an Independent.
