SSAFA's annual Big Collection in Chepstow raised more than £2,500 for the charity on Tuesday 12th May.

Volunteers from SSAFA (the Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Families Association) were joined my members of the Army and Navy to collect for the charity in the area.

Groups were stationed on Chepstow High Street, Moor Street in Bulwark, Budgens, the Garden Centre and Magor motorway services, rattling blue buckets and tins to raise money for the event.

15 Riflemen from 1 Rifles were part of the Big Collection, under the command of B Company Sergeant Dan McCouaig, while the Royal Navy were also involved in the region for the first time.

Four sailors from HMS Monmouth, under the command of Sub Lieutenant Nick Cox RN, travelled up especially from Plymouth.

Members of the public enjoyed meeting the servicemen, and gave generously to the Big Collection.

The Chepstow and District Division of SSAFA wanted to thank the ongoing support provided by the local SSAFA volunteers and also to the servicemen for their efforts.
