HUNDREDS of runners braved the weather on Saturday for the Severn Bridge Half Marathon.

The popular event, which this year had 2,700 entrants, is now in its fifth year and started on the western (Chepstow) end of the Severn Bridge on the motorway itself. After crossing the bridge and back the event finished below J2 of the M48, right next to the car park.

“It went really well and we are delighted with the huge amount of positive feedback,” said a spokesperson for the event. “The weather wasn’t the best but it didn’t dampen the spirit of the runners taking part. We as organisers are indebted to our huge band of helpers - from local running clubs like Chepstow Harriers and Forest of Dean AC, St Peter’s Hospice Bristol, St Davids Hospice Care Newport, SARA etc etc. It was a massive team effort with probably over 150 helpers in all.”
