SIR,
I have been tracing my family tree over the last twelve months and it has been quite a challenge.
My father died when I was just a baby and his surname was Davies (see what I mean). However, with a bit of luck and lots of help from the lovely people at the Tredegar Register Office, I have managed to find my father's birth, his parents marriage and the death of my grandmother.
She died, very sadly, at 36 in child birth. Quite common in 1908, I suppose. All this took place in the above pub. My father was called Richard and was born in 1906. My grandmother's name was Elizabeth Ann Davies nee Williams. We share a name with the surnames reversed.
I'm pretty sure the pub no longer exists but would be very interested to hear from anyone who may have memories or information on the area around this time. Here's hoping.
Liz Williams
