Spirit of Monmouth Running Club isn’t ‘just about running’ - it’s about some fun, camaraderie and cake too!
Halloween was celebrated with the club’s Annual ‘Spirit Run’, and perhaps the town’s residents wondered what was going on when they took to the streets, and to the surrounding spooky woods, dressed in costumes, all before heading to the pub for food and drink together!
But on the other hand, the club are now members of three separate Cross Country leagues, having just made their debut in the Hereford & Borders Cross-Country league at Pembridge, where the women’s team achieved an excellent fourth place, with the men’s team achieving 24th out of 40.
The three leagues mean Spirit now offer the opportunity to run in up to 15 cross-country races over the winter season – all either free or very low cost.
Spokesman David Mather said: “We have runners finishing near the front and near the back of these races so no need to worry about speed... just the determination to get round a course that’s typically five miles long.
“ Come and give it a go – the team spirit is great!”
