SIR, Overmonnow Family Learning Centre would like to say a big thank you to all the students, centre users, staff and friends who have knitted hats for the Age Concern Big Knit Appeal. The target of 100 hats was shattered when knitters made 206. A special thank you to Mrs Cox, Lyn Alderton, and Wendy Lewis and friends who contributed the most hats. Monmouth Community Learning has been supporting the Big Knit together with many other community based projects as a way of encouraging people in Monmouth to come along and use the centre, join groups and classes, learn new things and brush up old skills, meet old friends and make new ones. Although the hats project has now ended at the centre, knitters can still make blanket squares for the Oxfam appeal. We also have wool and needles for people to use. The Age Concern Shop, in Monmouth's Oldway centre, is happy to take delivery of any outstanding hats that have been knitted; they will be receiving them up until mid-November. Patterns and information about how to knit the hats are still available at the Age Concern Shop; why not start knitting for next year's Appeal? Shoppers are then asked to buy the hats which will start to appear on Innocent Drink bottles in Sainsburys supermarkets nationwide. Dee Lovering (Admin Officer Monmouthshire Community Learning)
