SIR,

May I take this opportunity to thank the Overmonnow electorate for voting for me on 3rd May.

The only promises I make are to defend this town and to assist those who are in need.

May I also thank those kind individuals and businesses who gave, and assisted me with the mayor's charities, namely Envee shoe shop, La Piazza, the Rowan Tree, Viyella, Bo Jangles, M&S, Waitrose, David Christophers, Thorntons/ Hallmark, Adrian Gaunt & Co, Hancocks the butchers, Graham's Electricals, Ron's 'Spar' shop, King's Head, Robin Hood, Green Dragon, Celestial Adornments, Shirt Box, Ruby Tuesdays, New Leaf Gallery and Granny Brown's Chocolate Box.

My only disappointment was of the low turnout on the day. No matter what we think of our democratic system, it is still the only way forward. Many people have died and suffered in its name.

Finally I give thanks to the officers of Monmouthshire County Council for the professional way in which the election was conducted.
