The owner of a Wye Valley hotel is leading fresh calls to reduce the speed limit on the A466 after a fatal car crash last weekend.

Hannah Rosher (pictured below) died following a collision on the road between Redbrook and Llandogo last Saturday (5th January).

The 18-year-old, from Bristol, was driving a silver Vauxhall Corsa that left the road near the Bigsweir Bridge and collided with a tree at about 8.15am.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and her next of kin and the coroner were informed.

Hannah's parents Steve and Sally Rosher issued the following statement on behalf of her family;

"Hannah exuded all that is good in life. She was a bright and shining star who was a magnet to all around her.

"Anyone who was privileged enough to have her touch their life in some way will know how badly missed she will be.

"She was a bubbly, feisty, vivacious and beautiful girl who only ever saw the good in people. Anyone who knew her loved her.

"There are no words to describe the pain felt not only by her mum and dad and two brothers, whose lives will never be the same, but also by her extended family and many, many special friends.

"We are all proud and blessed to have had her in our lives albeit only for a short time."

Kathy Redwood, owner of the nearby Florence hotel, has been campaigning to get the speed limit on the A466 reduced.

"It has been getting faster and more dangerous since we took over the hotel 10 years ago," she said, adding that she didn't know what speeds were involved in the latest collision.

"In the summer we get a lot of motorbikes and there was a biker killed down the road only a couple of years ago.

"There is a car upside down by the river which we don't think was involved in a fatal crash and only last week a deer was run over.

"I worry for the people who use the public footpath and cyclists. We are fearful of guests going out."

Mrs Redwood wrote to Gloucestershire Council last June about the speed of the road and has been told a reduction to 50mph from the current 60mph is possible.

"I would like to see it set at 30 or 40mph, from just north of the Bigsweir Bridge up to Wyeseal Farm, which has a lot of fishermen trying to pull out onto the main road as well as farmyard machinery.

"We also have bus stops outside the Florence with nowhere to stand other than the verge, and turning right from our car park is very difficult.

"Since the bridge was improved we have bigger lorries using the road. It's a death trap.

"How many people have got to die before something is done?

"They have reduced the speed limit in Redbrook and in Llandogo but it seems because there are only a few of us here Gloucestershire believe 40mph is unrealistic, but we have had quite a few things happen outside."

A spokesman for Gloucestershire County Council said: "Our sympathies are with all of those affected by this tragic incident.

"We constantly review county hotspots based on accident information, but it would be inappropriate to comment while the police are carrying out an investigation to determine what happened."

Police attended on Saturday and closed the road until 4pm while a collision investigation took place.

Firefighters from Monmouth, Malpas and Gloucester also attended the scene.

Anyone who witnessed the collision but has not spoken to police is asked to call 101, quoting incident 85 of 5th January.
