A Raglan teacher has been given global recognition for his efforts after his teaching methods received 27,000 hits on YouTube.

Gareth Ritter, who teaches in Willows High School, Cardiff, was selected to represent Europe at the Microsoft Partners in Learning Global Forum in Washington DC earlier this month.

The awards, which are all about innovative teaching, started at a local level.

The 29-year-old entered a project he had been working on called 'Ask the Music Teacher' into the regional stages of the competition in Manchester in November 2010.

He was one of 10 winners there, and then picked to be one of three entered into the European stages in Moscow in March of this year.

He was then selected as one of two to represent Europe in the final stage.
