SIR,
Having attended this wonderful event at Monmouth's Savoy Theatre, I would like to exhort your readers to lend their support to this gem of a venue in our midst. The concert was a fundraiser for the Savoy, a tale of the life and loves of colourful composer Puccini. The combined talents of soprano Virginia Blakey, pianist Alison Miledge and young clarinetist Tomos Haines-Davies provided us with a delightful concert. Ms. Blakey and Ms. Miledge were beautifully attired in sumptuous costumes, as indeed was our elegant host (Mr Ryde), right down to his gleaming cufflinks. However, the joy was not only musical and sartorial, for in the interval a delectable afternoon tea was served – on delicate bone china! The event was a great credit to all involved, and has prompted me to urge you all to peruse the varied programme on offer at this charming, historic venue.
