SIR,
I recently attended the show 'Frankie Titters On' – a one man show about the late Frankie Howerd, performed by Paul Harris – at the Savoy Theatre.
We had a fabulous evening and the laughs came thick and fast.
As the Mail on Sunday review said: "remarkable – recreates the great man".
But I was appalled that there were so few in the audience.
I felt upset and embarrassed for the performer as there were just handfuls to watch the talented Paul Harris in action.
It is unbelievable that so few of Monmouth's citizens do not take up the opportunity to be entertained at our local theatre.
Very often I hear people in the street complaining that there is nothing to occupy us in Monmouth.
That is not true as there are many shows in the Savoy which appeal to a wide audience.
Everyone is working so hard to keep this theatre open and these unpaid helpers should be applauded for the time they give to the task.
The volunteers give up their time for the community and it must be soul destroying to work so hard and not get the support they deserve.
The shows I have attended have been absolutely excellent and my teenage daughter has thoroughly enjoyed them too.
Come on Monmouth, let's keep this theatre open and vibrant by giving the performers and the volunteers some real support in 2011.
