A last-gasp super strike from sub Craig Lewis claimed all three points for the Kingfishers in their away match on Saturday 20th March – the first time this has happened since October – and extended their unbeaten run to five games.
Lewis, and 17-year-old fellow sub Greg Harris, showed terrific commitment to the cause, as Monmouth played again with walking wounded and were still missing key players – a situation compounded by the suspension of Ford and Palmer, and the loss of top scorer Phil Tranter to second Division Newport YMCA.
Introduced at 75 minutes, with the game heading for stalemate despite the Kingfishers' dominance of the game in the face of a solid Risca defence, Lewis latched onto a fine through ball by Bowen to finish calmly beyond Matthew Long – who had performed heroics throughout the game – in the home goal.
