SIR, Monmouth Comprehensive School Boat Club (MCSBC) celebrated the end of the school year with their annual Summer Regatta in the middle of July. This was a wonderful event, allowing club rowers to compete against each other in the company of their friends and families. The weather was superb, which provided great water conditions. This was a nice opportunity for the new junior rowers to take part in their first friendly competition and allowed them to be part of the electric atmosphere of the senior rowing races, which gave them a taste of what is to come over the coming years. Invitations were extended to parents to experience rowing on the river for themselves in the morning and gain an appreciation for how talented their children actually are. The event also served as a fundraiser to keep rowing available to students from Year 8 to 13. Athletes, friends and families enjoyed a splendid barbeque and a wonderful array of salads and puddings kindly prepared and donated by parents. Thank you to all parents who made these donations, as well as raffle prizes. Special thanks should go to local businesses, Marks & Spencer Simply Food donated sausages, bread rolls and salad. The Co-op, Monmouth, and Morrisons, Ross on Wye, kindly gave vouchers to help purchase food. Finally Pasty Heaven supplied scrummy sausage rolls. Thank you to all of the benefactors. Special thanks should go the club organisers for their continued dedication to the students and the sport and to the parents who support their children by getting up at 5am at the weekend to get to rowing regattas, come rain or shine. Here's to another successful year for MCSBC. Sarah Bainbridge (Friends of MCSBC)
