A 37 year old male from the Forest of Dean was arrested after trying to commit suicide on a wall between the Wye Bridge and the A40.

Fire crews, the Severn Area Rescue and the police helicopter were called to the scene.

A trained negotiator spoke to the man for over one and half hours, during which time the south bound dual carraigeway was closed to allow the attempts to get him to come down to continue.

Eventually, the man came down and was arrested by the police. He was, however, released without charge the next day.
