A DENTIST from Monmouth has taken part in one of the world’s toughest triathlons to raise money for Alzheimer’s UK.
Gareth Jones, of Monmouth Dental Practice, took part in the colossal Axetri challenge which over 22nd and 23rd August involved cycling over two mountains climbing over 12,000ft, running and climbing over 3,000ft and swimming across a fjord at a temperature of just 11 degrees.
The route took Mr Jones through a scenic route overlooking views of Norway’s Western Fjord, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Mr Jones first competed in a triathlon last year, and this was his third this year.
“It was brutal,” he said.
“It’s supposed to be the sixth toughest in the world, and I wouldn’t like to think what the most challenging one was like!”
Mr Jones trained and took part in the event with friend and fellow dentist Mark Worthing from
Hereford.
Anyone wishing to donate can still do so by dropping in at Monmouth Dental Practice on St James Square, Monmouth.
