A MONMOUTHSHIRE recording studio and guest house which has hosted countless famous names is up for sale.

Monnow Valley Studios, the recording studio where The Stone Roses, Oasis, Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath all recorded is on the market.

Monnow Valley has been operating since 1975 and is said to have one of the best sounding rooms in the business.

It was originally the rehearsal facility of the world’s first residential recording studio, Rockfield Studios, created by brothers Charles and Kingsley Ward.

When the brothers went their separate ways in the 1980s, Charles took over Monnow Valley and turned it into an independent recording studio.

Its 1,200sq ft live area is where Oasis recorded Definitely Maybe and shot their single cover for Supersonic.

The vendor, Jo Riou said that after 20 years of owning the studio, it’s time to do something different.

Monnow Valley’s guest house has a fascinating history, previous guests have included Black Sabbath, Oasis, Tom Jones, Stereophonics, Pulp, Simple Minds, Manic Street Preachers, Joss Stone, The Charlatans, Levellers, Editors, Biffy Clyro, Robert Plant, Marti Pellow, Feeder, Busted, Laura Marling, Iggy Azalea and Kaiser Chiefs.

It has been a guest house in one form or another for the past 70 years, before the studio was built, it was a fishery and country club.

The deeds show the original old mill dating back to the 17th Century, before becoming a recording studio over 40 years ago.

The one mile of private trout and salmon fishing rights on the River Monnow that come with the property could make it an attractive prospect for hospitality investors.

Unless there is a buyer to take the studio as-is by the end of February, plans will be put in motion to redevelop the riverside property.

However, the current owners are hopeful that someone might take it on to keep it as a recording studio, as there are few studios like it.

The studio comes fully furnished and equipped but can be sold without the equipment for a lesser price.

The equipment, much of it collected by American producer, mixer and three-time Grammy award winner, Andrew Scheps was installed in the studio after he moved to the UK in 2016, an idea that had been talked about since he first worked there in 2007, declaring "Monnow Valley is one of the best sounding live rooms I’ve ever worked in."

The control room is a who’s who of high quality vintage audio equipment including a 64 input vintage Neve 8068 with Neve 31102 modules - similar to the more famous Neve 1084. The sale of the house includes the title, business, website and all related copyrighted material."
