Monmouth students stepped out of the classroom this morning and took to the streets.

Sixth-formers from Monmouth Comprehensive School were protesting against government plans to raise university fees.

A group of around 70 students gathered in Agincourt Square at 11am with banners and placards, as thousands of walkouts from schools, colleges and universities around the country took place.

Some of the Monmouth students said they had been out protesting all morning, while others left the school at break time to join their classmates.

The crowd chanted "No ifs, no buts, no education cuts" and many students aimed their anger at Nick Clegg, the Liberal Democrat leader who is now Deputy Prime Minister in the Coalition Government.

Monmouth MP David Davies is set to visit Monmouth Comprehensive School on Friday to discuss the issue with students.
