Monmouth's ambulance station will be moved to a new location within the town.

The station in Drybridge Street is in serious need of repair, but the Welsh Ambulance Service NHS Trust's says the level of cover in Monmouth will stay the same.

The trust's preferred option is to move Monmouth's ambulance and rapid response car next door to the fire station, a proposal being looked at by the estates departments of both services.

The possibility of co-locating with either the hospital or police station has also been discussed.

An ambulance spokesperson said: "The current ambulance station in Monmouth needs significant investment and we do not believe that the investment required would be a good use of public money.

"We are therefore looking at our options, including moving crews to other sites in Monmouth, but whatever the decision the level of ambulance cover in Monmouth will not change.

"We will continue to work with the Community Health Council."
