MADAM,

Mrs B Hall asks in your issue of February 1st for suggestions on how to cope with the litter problem here.

The basis of the problem is people. They are the root cause and until they change there will be no improvement. We can all help by encouraging our children and grandchildren to take their litter home where no litter bins are provided.

To get more bins and better street cleaning services the ratepayers should complain! Complain by letter or telephone to their local Town Councillor and to the Monmouthshire County Council Environmental Services Department at Cwmbran. If enough people make a fuss about the problems something would be done eventually.

The environment is spoiled by indiscriminate dropping of litter and it spoils what could be a very attractive town for both residents and tourists alike.
