IN only their eighth league game of the season, Skenfrith were at home at The Riverside against Tupsley and ran out 3-0 victors.
It was a game on paper that Skenfrith should have won easily but such is the standard of their division that no game seems to be easy.
Despite playing some outstanding football it was not until the 40th minute when Skenfrith took the lead through Bontej.
The second half saw Skenfrith pick up the game. The defence of Price, Oxford, Waldron and Macdonald kept Tupsley at bay and when they got through, Jenkins made several outstanding saves. Midfield of Diamond, Hughes, Pound and "Man of the match" Wigmore worked so hard to help their defence and support the strike force of Bontej and Byron. Besides the occasional counter attack by Tupsley, Skenfrith totally dominated the second half.
The second goal came from an excellent 40 yard pass from Waldron to Bontej whose superb run and control beat the offside trap and finished in style. Five minutes later, Skenfrith made a substitution. Thomas came on for Price and almost immediately they scored their third and best goal. This started with a powerful header by Pound to Diamond whose pass found Bontej who juggled the ball several times on his foot before despatching a volley into the bottom corner.
Managers Brown and Jenkins were very pleased with the composure and flair the team showed. They are gaining confidence and maturity game by game.
Skenfrith are at The Riverside next Saturday in the quarter finals of the HFC Peterson Cup against local rivals Weston - which is sure to prove a very hard game. Kick-off is at 2pm.
A special mention must go to Graham Brown for all the hard work he has done to get the pitch looking so good.
