Sir,

I have just returned from visiting friends near Monmouth and have only just read your excellent account of the Neolithic or Bronze Age longhouse discovered at Monmouth (13th June), yet another triumph for Stephen Clarke and his team.

Although clearly in the case of a building such as this, little remains apart from foundations, what an imaginative approach to this major monument it would be to attempt a reconstruction, actually on site, perhaps a building which could be used as an amenity to give the estate more character and to remind residents and visitors of the importance of the site, another  amenity alongside the copse already designated for preservation.

As your article says you would have to go a very long way to see something remotely like this building.

Its importance both locally and nationally  cannot be overstressed.
