SIR,
Through the pages of your newspaper may I remind your readers that a bicycle is classed as a vehicle and, as such, should be properly equipped and ridden on the road, complying with the law: pavements are for pedestrians.
If you are unsure about exposing your child to traffic, there is a cycling proficiency scheme run by ROSPA.
Having almost been run down by a family of five who regularly ride down Hereford Road on a Sunday afternoon, I see this law-breaking activity appears to be on the increase and any remonstration about their illegal activity is often met with abuse.
Are these the same kids whose parents clog the roads in their 4x4s twice a day? Teach your children to ride their bikes properly and there would be less traffic.
Elderly people often have diminished hearing and walk erratically. Any impact with a moving vehicle could lead to serious injury or death due to complications. Obviously uninsured lawbreakers such as cyclists on the pavement would be held personally liable in law for such accidents and the resultant compensation for damages.
