A shop mobility scheme is finally up and running in Monmouth.

Mobility Monmouth, a project first imagined four years ago, was launched at Bridges Community Centre last Friday (30th September).

Bill Thorne, who alongside David Hill has been instrumental in setting up the service, said: "It started off in 2007 with an idea.

"We gathered support from Monmouth Town Council, Monmouthshire County Council and got involved with Vision Monmouth.

"We kept fighting and eventually found a building, only for it to fall down. We applied to the lottery but that didn't work either.

"We were getting disillusioned but were still enthusiastic because we knew it would be a good thing for Monmouth.

"Out of the blue came this place [Bridges], it's not ideally situated but it is a good place.

"With the scooters we have had donated and brought up to standard, serviced and with new batteries, we have five suitable for purpose at the price of one brand new scooter."
