The Shire Hall Stewards have celebrated reaching the Heritage Lottery matchfunding target of £42,569 by presenting the final cheque to general manager Mike Booth.

When the court closed in April 2001 the Shire Hall, previously maintained by the Lord Chancellor's Office, required £400,000 for major repairs to stop water ingress.

The threat that the centre of Monmouth might have a closed decaying building in Agincourt Square motivated representatives, local groups, organisations and individuals to form this group.

The aim was to support the Heritage Lottery Fund application, made by Monmouthshire County Council, for the renovation of the Grade I listed building, now beautifully restored.

The group were involved with the renovation project from start to finish.
