LOCAL Senedd member Laura Anne Jones is celebrating Monmouthshire Day today, a chance to reflect on how lucky we are all to live in such a beautiful country, steeped in history at every turn, with towns and villages that many travel miles to see.

Monmouthshire Day is an opportunity to recognise a county shaped by its place on the border between England and Wales. From the Wye Valley to the Black Mountains, it landscape is home to landmarks including Chepstow Castle, Tintern Abbey, Monnow Bridge and Llanthony Priory.

Ms Jones, Deputy Leader of Reform Wales said:

“Monmouthshire is a wonderful place to call home. Its town and village, farm and landscapes each have their own story, and Monmouthshire Day gives us a chance to celebrate the people who keep those places thriving.

“You can see centuries of history in a short journey across the county: from Chepstow Castle and the ruins of Tintern Abbey to Monmouth’s remarkable Monnow Bridge. It is a heritage we should be proud of and determined to care for.

“Most of all, today is about the communities that make Monmouthshire what it is. To everyone celebrating Monmouthshire Day, I hope you have a fantastic day celebrating!”
