A SENEDD member who represents the Monmouthshire area has called for a revolution in Wales house building.
South Wales east member Laura Anne Jones said: "If we’re to have a new generation of homeowners who feel they have a stake in society, we must address the housing crisis. We need to liberalise planning laws and ignite a house building revolution in Wales house building. Owning a home needs become a viable reality for all, not a dream."She referenced figures from the Office of National Statistics (ONS) published in the New Statesmen which illustrates the average house price rising exponentially above the average weekly earnings. In 2018 the Beacon reported that hundreds of affordable homes would have had to be built per year in Monmouthshire by 2023 to keep up with the demand. Hometrack research shows that 468 affordable homes would have to be built each year by 2023 to satisfy the need for social rented accommodation and low cost homeownership.
