It could have been the scene straight out of a Hitchcock movie, but to the fitters and customers of a tyre company on Monmouth, this was very real indeed.

One particular seagull has taken to swooping down on the workers at Paul Jarrold Tyres as they go about their work at the company’s premises on Wonastow Road.

Matt Roberts-Buxton said that the bird has taken to swooping down on the fitters as they are just walking across the yard and explained it also goes for young children and babies.

“It even grabbed one of the fitters, Seb, by the neck and left a ‘deposit’”, he added.

Receptionist Chantelle said “you hear the squawk and know it’s coming!”

She cycles to work and keeps her head down.

Co-director of the firm Gareth Bartlett-Smith thinks that the bird must have young around, “It’s got to be something along those lines” he said.

And it seems that it’s not just the fitters as Chantelle explained.

“ One customer had to run in to avoid getting attacked”,

The seagull can be seen either sitting on the lampost out on the road, or on the roof of the building, although Matt says there are sometimes two about!
