Hamish Sandison, Labour's Parliamentary Candidate for Monmouth Constituency, has secured an invitation to meet with Home Office Minister Alan Campbell to press the case for the future of the Forensic Science Service in Chepstow.

His campaign is supported by Welsh Secretary Peter Hain, First Minister Rhodri Morgan, and local MP Jessica Morden.

Mr Sandison said: "I was very disappointed with last week's announcement of the proposed closure of the FSS lab in Chepstow in 2011. However, the implementation of this decision is 2 years away, and this still leaves time for us to develop an alternative business case for the lab.

National Assembly Member for Monmouth, Nick Ramsay, has condemned the announcement to close the Forensic Science Service in Chepstow.

The local AM has been campaigning to keep the site open since June when the closure was first proposed.
