COLEG Gwent's Landbased students have been hosting the 25th Annual Countryside Experience event at the working farm, equestrian centre, small animal centre, woods and pond at the College's Usk Campus.

More than 1,000 primary school visitors will get to meet the many different animals at the site, from traditional farm animals including lambs, calves, horses and ducks, to the more unusual lizards, spiders, ferrets and chinchillas.

The experience is all about involving children in outdoor life, enabling them to learn about and care for the natural environment in generations to come.

Pupils will also get hands-on with den building and traditional wood crafts in woodland "classrooms" complete with seating areas specially created by Coleg Gwent staff and students.

Student Georgina Irving said: "It's really great to be outside in the fresh air.

"We all really enjoy talking to the children and teaching them about the countryside."
