Trainee positions are now available for the volunteer in-shore lifeboat as well as mountain rescue crews, based at the Beachley Station, near Chepstow.

Search and rescue crew members are recruited from a wide range of backgrounds and occupations. Following a rigorous selection process, recruits undertake approximately 18 months of training covering the full range of skills required to become a search and rescue operative.

No specific knowledge or experience is required prior to applying, but your commitment and determination is essential.

SARA is tasked by the Coastguard, fire, police and ambulance services across its operational area to provide search and rescue services 24/7, 365 days of the year; working closely with other rescue agencies such as RAF search and rescue.

For those who want to get involved without getting cold, wet and muddy, support positions are available to assist with the running of this vital voluntary service, including equipment maintenance and preparation, vehicle maintenance, IT support, fundraising and more.

SARA is staffed entirely by volunteers and funded entirely by donations.

If you think you have got what it takes, email [email protected]">[email protected] or call 0844 846 0226 to request an application form.
