MONMOUTH Assembly Member Nick Ramsay has written to the Welsh Government's Transport Minister, Edwina Hart AM, regarding safety concerns at the Chepstow Tesco/ A48 traffic lights.

Mr Ramsay wrote to the minister after being contacted by a constituent who is concerned about the huge number of pedestrians who visit Tesco in Chepstow, and then cross the road by taking a short cut from the Tesco car park before crossing at the traffic lights on the A48, even though this is not a designated crossing.

Speaking last Wednesday (10th June), Mr Ramsay said: "My constituent has been in correspondence with the South Wales Trunk Road Agent for over 17 months and the Trunk Road Agent has suggested that a safety rail be installed to prevent pedestrians attempting to cross the road at these lights.

"I have asked the Minister if she is able to indicate whether this area of the A48 is likely to have a safety rail installed before the end of the year.

"I will continue to monitor the situation and hope that this safety measure can be implemented sooner rather than later."
