SIR,
I understood this was in response to concerns expressed by several local residents.
I regret to say that I myself had not got around to voicing such concern officially.
The speed of vehicles through this village has been of distress to most residents for many years.
It was hoped that the erection of 30mph signs would have alleviated the problem, but this was not the case.
Cars, vans and even buses transporting children, clearly exceed the designated limit and it is a revelation that so many female drivers, and individuals who regard themselves as respected pillars of the community, flout the law to the endangerment of the local inhabitants.
I commend the officers for their work and hope that by their dedication, they will be able to bring about a safer road environment for those of us who live, walk, cycle and drive locally.
Several local inhabitants have reported that they have experienced being tail-gated after they had slowed to 30mph on entering the village.
One turned into his drive and stopped to see the kind of person who had done this.
The driver stopped, reversed, leapt out and was clearly going to assault the elderly driver, verbally or physically, for driving at the legal limit.
Fortunately this was avoided by the local fleeing up the drive in his car and into the house.
I hope that even with the current financial constraints, safe speed measures can continue to be implemented not to generate income, but to avoid injuries and possibly deaths.
