Usk Rural Museum has been given a Rural Wales Award by Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales (CPRW) for the best rural museum in Wales.

David Morgan, president of the museum in Usk and John Evans, the former secretary, were handed the Post Office sponsored award at the recent AGM by Stuart Taylor, head of external relations with the Post Office and Alan Horrex.

On receiving the award, president David Morgan said he was proud of the achievement of his volunteers who man the museum and have managed to raise enough money to fund a fascinating extension to the museum.

"We are trying to tell a story," he said.

"We want to get more schoolchildren involved.

"We now have a model cow which they can actually milk.

"It is a tremendous boost to be honoured with this award; the museum is a treasure trove and is really going places."

The museum is on New Market St, Usk, and is open from April through to October.
