TWO Chepstow runners have taken part in a 50k ultra marathon to raise money in the memory of a 17-month-old baby who passed away earlier this year.

On 16th July James Tucker and David Bovill took part in the Chiltern Hills 50k ultra race and raised over £1000 for Ty Hafan.

The runners, who run for Chepstow Harriers, crossed the line together in five hours 26 minutes and came equal 19th in a field of over 200 competitors.

Conditions were very hot during the race and the course was challenging with plenty of hills, forest and open trails.

James and David ran in memory of baby Max Harding, who was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy Type 1, an incurable condition and the biggest genetic cause of death in children under two years old.

They chose the charity Ty Hafan because of the care and support the hospice gave him and his family during his short life.

James and his wife Liz met Martina and Glyn at an NCT group before their first children were born. The group had become close over the last two years as they have each watched their children grow up together, and the birth of baby Max was a big event for everyone. Max sadly passed away at 17 weeks on 16th May, and is truly missed by his parents, his big sister Mila, and everyone who knew him.

Ty Hafan and its wonderful staff allowed Martina and Glyn to spend quality family time with their baby Max whilst creating unforgettable memories for them. Max adored the team at Ty Hafan and they all adored him.

Max’s mother Martina said: “Max was a loving boy with the most beautiful blue eyes that spoke a thousand words, his beaming smile charmed everyone around him.

“Somehow you felt understood by him, even though conversation was never had. He inspired many and his influence still continues.”
