THE Gilbert match ball for last Friday's Wales v England Six Nations clash passed through Monmouth last week on its way to the Millenium stadium.
Nearing the end of their epic walk from London to Cardiff, the 'Doing it for Heroes' team called in to meet with Monmouth Rugby Club (MRFC).
Help for Heroes supporters, players from young rugby, senior first team captain Sam Harding, club chairmen Lloyd Davies and Jonathan Henry along with senior club officials and proud parents ensured a noisy reception as the team carried the Gilbert Match Ball across the threshold into Monmouth Rugby Club.
Being the first rugby club the team would encounter as they walked into Wales, MRFC felt it only fitting that they opened their doors to host a fundraising event for a charity which has very emotive ties to the club given their many military connections through players, families and those who have fallen in conflicts defending our freedom.
The 'Doing it for Heroes' team on the night comprised Chief Petty Officers from the Royal Navy Andy 'Gibbo' Gibbs and Tyrone 'Ty' Stock along with Colour Sergeant Royal Marines Andy 'Crofty' Crofts.
Selfies galore were taken by those in attendance who were more than happy to make a contribution to the Help for Heroes charity in return for a photograph holding the Gilbert Match Ball.
An amazing opportunity for the young rugby stars of the future to participate in such an inspirational event whilst supporting such a worthwhile cause.
