ONE of the three new signs purchased by the Llanfihangel-tor-y-Mynydd Community Project Group, has been taken down by a local farmer.

David Maddocks said he had taken the sign down after receiving a number of complaints that it was in the wrong place and could be a danger to road users.

He has handed the sign to the local community council who are calling an open meeting to discuss signs in the area.

Mr Maddocks, who was a member of Devauden Community Council for 26 years, said that 90 per cent of the local people he had spoken to felt that the sign should be moved to mark the hamlet of Llanfihangel-tor-y-Mynydd. He pointed out that of the 135 people on the local electoral roll only two had addresses in Llanvihangel-tor-y-Mynydd.

Mr Maddocks added that he had nothing against the new signs and felt that all the other small hamlets in the area, such as Cobblers' Plain, New Inn and Wolvesnewton, should also have signs.

"When someone I know had an accident, it took the ambulance an extra threequarters of an hour to get to us because they couldn't find Wolvesnewton," said Mr Maddocks.
