Monmouth came together this week to celebrate the life of one of its most famous sons, but not everything went according to plan.

Crowds gathered in Agincourt Square, just as they did 100 years ago, (pictured, inset) as the town remembered the life and achievements of Charles Rolls.

But for many people, the day was tinged with disappointment as a Spitfire flypast was cancelled and a procession of Rolls-Royce cars took place earlier than scheduled.

The Mayor of Monmouth, Jeana Hall, and town clerk Sue James, on behalf of Monmouth Town Council, have since apologised for the last-minute changes.
